ENGINEERING ENERGY SINCE 1991

Nuclear Energy

We deliver cutting-edge solutions for nuclear energy, supporting both large-scale power plants and emerging Small Modular Reactors with expertise in design, manufacturing, and maintenance to ensure safe and reliable energy production.

Rockfin provides high-quality auxiliary equipment for both turbine and nuclear islands, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

Trusted in
‍Nuclear Energy

At Rockfin, we believe in the pivotal role of nuclear energy. We specialize in delivering comprehensive solutions, particularly in the design and production of mechanical modules and skids for both new-build and retrofitted nuclear power plants.

Our expertise encompasses supporting large-scale nuclear facilities, whether they are newly constructed or undergoing significant upgrades.

The expansion of nuclear energy is crucial for countries committed to reducing carbon emissions, particularly as renewable energy sources alone cannot fully stabilize energy systems.

Nuclear power plants, especially those operating as baseload power, complement renewables by providing a consistent, pollution-free energy supply. This balance is becoming increasingly critical as global electricity demand is projected to surge by 2050, driven by growth in industrial and transportation sectors.

Expertise and Capabilities

Over the years, Rockfin's involvement in nuclear projects has evolved from solely manufacturing customer-designed components to providing comprehensive engineering and design services, enriched by the integration of Rockfin's own products, like: Coalescing filters, Oil Mist Separators and Changeover valves.

Our capabilities include:

  • Designing systems for power plants, utilizing technologies from leading providers such as EDF, Westinghouse, and KHNP
  • Expertise in managing projects with a graded approach to safety classification and quality assurance
  • Development and implementation of dedicated quality assurance programs
  • A firm commitment to a Counterfeit, Fraudulent, and Suspect Items (CFSI) policy
  • A strong nuclear safety culture, in alignment with ISO 19443 and the IAEA General Safety Requirements (GSR Part 2)

Generator Auxiliaries

Supporting systems ensure the reliable and efficient operation of the generator in a nuclear power plant. These systems manage critical functions such as cooling, lubrication, and sealing, which are essential for maintaining optimal generator performance and preventing failures. Without these auxiliary systems, the generator could overheat, lose efficiency, or even suffer damage. Proper integration of these systems enhances the generator’s longevity and safety.

Steam Turbine Auxiliaries

Steam turbine auxiliaries are essential supporting systems that ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the steam turbine in a nuclear power plant. These systems provide critical functions such as lubrication, sealing, cooling, and control, which are vital for maintaining turbine performance under demanding conditions. The proper functioning of turbine auxiliaries is crucial to avoid mechanical stress, wear, and potential failures. These systems help optimize turbine efficiency and extend its operational life.

Pressure Vessels

All pressure vessels supporting the operationof steam turbine and generator systems. We design, manufacture, test, and certify in accordancewith popular directives and local standards.

Darlington (Ontario, Canada)

In partnership with Arabelle Solutions, we are supplying the lubrication system (Lube Oil System) for the Darlington New Nuclear project—Canada’s first next-generation BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR), developed by GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy.

This project represents a significant milestone not only in the development of clean nuclear energy but also in creating modular and repeatable engineering solutions for the SMR program. The goal is clear: to implement a highly standardized and replicable design that enables efficient deployment of future SMR units in Canada and international markets.

Rockfin’s scope of supply:

Lube Oil Tank Assembly, including:

  • Tank – designed for long-term durability and easy integration with turbine island systems. Rockfin oil tanks are engineered to withstand demanding operating conditions, ensuring safe oil storage and circulation.
  • Filters – high-efficiency filtration units tailored for turbine applications, ensuring oil purity, minimizing bearing wear, and protecting sensitive equipment from contamination.
  • Oil Mist Separator – designed to recover and condense oil mist from the system, ensuring cleaner air emissions and reducing oil losses.

All three components are fully designed, engineered, manufactured, and tested at Rockfin facilities, leveraging our extensive experience in mechanical, hydraulic, and process systems. Learn more about these and other precision-engineered solutions on our website.

Lube Oil Cooler Skid – supporting temperature stability and oil degassing under varying load conditions.

Accumulator Skid – ensuring pressure stability during transient and emergency conditions.

Temperature Control Valve (TCV) – enabling precise oil temperature control for reliable turbine operation.

Manufacturing to the highest standards.

Each pressure component is manufactured in accordance with stringent Canadian regulations (Province of Ontario), including CSA standards and Canadian Registration Number (CRN) certification.

Production takes place in a facility currently undergoing TSSA (Technical Standards and Safety Authority) accreditation—a regulatory requirement for manufacturing pressure equipment intended for the Ontario market.

Implementation by Rockfin’s dedicated nuclear unit.

The project is being executed by Rockfin’s specialized Nuclear Business Unit—a team focused exclusively on supporting global investments in the nuclear sector. From initial design and documentation through production, FAT testing, and logistics—each stage is led by experienced engineers and experts familiar with nuclear codes and international regulations. This reflects Rockfin’s unwavering commitment to quality, full traceability, and nuclear safety.

The SMR project is a strong example of what close collaboration and in-house expertise can achieve.

We are proud to be part of this groundbreaking project, carried out in partnership with Arabelle Solutions and GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy—a project that not only supports the clean energy transition but also sets standards for future Small Modular Reactor (SMR) solution.
