Discussions about hydrogen have been ongoing for many years, and one could say that this green player gives us growing hope for energy transformation. But are these still only hopes and forecasts, or are we already seeing its practical applications in our surroundings? These and many other questions were raised at this year’s Polish Conference for Hydrogen Energy and Technologies (PCHET) 2025 during various panels, where experts from business, academia, and the public sector shared their insights.

Are we ready for the hydrogen revolution?
“Revolution” is not the best term here. The energy transition, with hydrogen as one of its pillars, is a complex and multidimensional process. It should ensure energy supply stability, be economically viable, properly regulated by law, and, above all, genuinely support the improvement of the natural environment. These changes must be implemented gradually, in a flexible manner, and adapted to the extremely dynamic market situation.
As emphasized during the conference by Dr. hab. Grzegorz Tchorek, Professor at IEN-PIB:
We can say that we inflated a bubble of expectations, assuming that everything would happen “here and now.” It’s important to remember that hydrogen technology is highly complex – something we underestimated at the time – and the energy crisis only compounded the challenge. We accelerated too much, not taking into account rising energy prices. Today it’s clear that excessive optimism has led us into a dead end.
Every success grows from small actions
On the other hand, we cannot overlook that – despite a temporary slowdown – the hydrogen market is developing dynamically. Each year, new electrolyzers are being built, breaking successive size records. Currently, only the key players remain in the field – as noted by Grzegorz Pawelec, Director of the Intelligence Unit at Hydrogen Europe.
We are proud that Rockfin is one of those players. Our current portfolio already includes solutions for designing, producing, and storing green hydrogen. We believe in the future of clean energy, but we view it realistically – before hydrogen technologies become a part of our everyday life, some time will still pass. That’s why we focus on what works today. Our products allow us to tackle real market challenges and deliver tangible benefits – both to large corporations and smaller companies.
We have already completed our first hydrogen projects: construction of hydrogen generation installations and refueling stations for transport needs, which gave us the opportunity to test our solutions in real operating conditions. Now it’s time to scale up! – emphasizes Paweł Trojanowski, Business Development Director at Rockfin.
The market looks promising: many indicators suggest that by the end of this decade, large-scale electrolyzer installations producing green hydrogen will begin to emerge in our region – for the refinery and fertilizer industries, as well as for transportation. We are proud that, within Rockfin HyVentive, we can develop Polish engineering expertise, already successfully competing with well-established brands from Europe and beyond. – adds Trojanowski.
As emphasized by the experts at the PCHET 2025 conference, there is no turning back from decarbonization processes. Now it’s time to gradually implement regulations and reduce emissions. Time for action! Want to explore opportunities for your company? Contact a Rockfin expert.
